Guinevere's Birthday

I happened upon Mother's trunk
and found a world of treasures masked as memories...

... a wedding shoe, a nightdress from her wedding night,
one of her dolls...

I played with her brooches, a pearl watch, a hankie...
I gazed up as she called my name...

I am two years old today, my mother's daughter ....
I am her gift.

Happy Birthday, Guinevere Katharine Blythe!
I love you!!!

"Traces of Mischief"

If one looks closely,
'neath a nest of blond locks,
petulant petaled lips, and dimpled fingers...

If one looks beyond
ruffles and lace,
raspy giggles,
and dancing eyes...

One will find
traces of earth,
merriment
and mischief...

On tender knees of little fallen angels.

A Longing Heart

My Dears it has been longer than a fortnight since we've written. My heart is saddened. I do so enjoy the summer months but alas is does make it difficult for communication. So may parties, balls and summers at the lake take up so much social time that I scarce have time to keep up with my correspondence.

Please know you are in my hearts and thoughts almost daily. I pray for fall. The cool breezes and lagging times are close in my sight.

I leave you with my longing heart,
P. Darling Prescott
